Positive Experience Wellness Centre (PX Wellness) is a Reproductive Health Clinic providing reproductive health services to people residing across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).  Located in Scarborough, Ontario, the Clinic provides medical abortions (up to 10.5 weeks), IUD insertions and removals; a full range of counselling services including birth control methods; pregnancy options; sexually transmitted disease counselling and other matters related to reproductive health at all stages of life.  We are currently seeking Physicians and Registered Practical Nurse/Councellor – Reproductive Health Services to join our dynamic team.

PHYSICIAN – JOB POSTING

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Physician works within an interdisciplinary team framework, and provide support to clients to ensure they receive the services they need. As a multi-disciplinary team member, the Physician fosters a culture of safety by minimizing clients harm, promoting the well-being of clients, reducing the likelihood of adverse events, and communicating safety concerns. The Physician functions interdependently with other staff to provide client-centered care that emphasizes health promotion and wellness; and client education. The Physician provides reproductive health care services within the full scope of practice to clients at all stages of their lives. The Physician is responsible for supporting the organization’s vision, mission, values and objectives while working in accordance with relevant legislation and standards of medical practice and the guidelines and policies established at Positive Experience Wellness Centre.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs assessment, diagnosis, counselling, screening, referral, education, treatment and other medical functions as required according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario standards of practice.
• Provides reproductive healthcare to the general community with an emphasis on PX Wellness’s priority populations
• Maintains complete and accurate records of client visits including the data required by the Ministry of Health, utilizing the electronic health record
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals as necessary and consult as required to enable them to work within their full scope of practice
• Ensure complete and up to date documentation of medical records including various performance indicators in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures
• Contributes to chart documentation and participates in chart reviews, case conferences and makes referrals
• Participate in the supervision and education of medical students
• Continue to improve professional knowledge, develop skills and remain up to date concerning current trends, especially related to PX Wellness Centre’s priority populations
• Participate at staff and team meetings, case conferences and chart reviews and other activities related to ensuring a quality culture at the organization
• Ensures that laboratory procedural forms are filled out correctly and that specimens are procured and handled properly
• Works in alignment with the organization’s vision, mission and values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• License to practice medicine and membership in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
• Medical degree from a recognized university
• Three to five years’ experience in a reproductive health clinic setting, preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment
• Understanding of the social, environmental and economic determinants of health
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills
• Proficiency and experience working with electronic health records
• Ability to work effectively with our diverse clientele and across all aspects of the healthcare system

JOB POSTING – REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE / COUNCELLOR – REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The  RPN/Counsellor  –  Reproductive  Health  Services  is  a  leading  edge  resource  specialist  in  providing counselling  support  to  clients  to  address  their  reproductive  healthcare  needs.  The  RPN/Counsellor’s framework is grounded in evidence-based information and incorporates best practices to provide clients with  the  most  current  and  up-to-date  information  to  inform  their  decision-making  process.  The RPN/Counsellor works as part of a interdisciplinary team of clinical providers who provide client-centered care to ensure clients receive excellent, high quality services to effectively meet their needs

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greet patient and builds a warm and supportive relationship 
• Confirm patient identification 
• Review pregnancy options 
• Assess the patient’s capacity and readiness to consent to the medication abortion and their capacity to comprehend and adhere to the medication abortion process
• Review consent forms and supporting documentation with clients to confirm clients are capable of voluntary, informed consent
• Provide comprehensive information around pregnancy and birth control options
• Discuss pain management for IUD insertion and provide an overview of what is to be expected during insertion and removal procedures, emphasizing vaginal bleeding that is heavier than their usual period  
• Review access to emergency medical care, and a transportation plan to access the emergency care site, if needed
• Refer to other Abortion providers and community based services where appropriate, as identified by the client 

• Current certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (RPN)
• Professional development training in counselling  and additional relevant courses
• Three to five years of counselling experience in individual, group and community setting.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of interdisciplinary teams and with the demonstrated competence in performance of counselling, case management and coordination, psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention and system navigation.
• Organize and maintain the counselling (initial assessment room) in accordance with appropriate standards
• Experience in group work, program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Ability to facilitate appropriate referrals, and follow-up as appropriate   Demonstrates a positive professional attitude when representing Positive Experience Wellness Centre
• Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
